„I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality.“
Who was Frida Kahlo? Everyone has heard of her, but who is the person behind those bright colors, bushy eyebrows and flower wreaths?
The film from the series “Exhibition On Screen” takes us on a journey through the life of one of the most famous female icons of the visual arts. Frida Kahlo was a successful portrait painter who documented the various phases of her turbulent and sometimes tragic life on canvas. Through interviews with Kahlo curators, commentaries, and Frida’s own words (she was a passionate writer of letters), the documentary shows that her life was not primarily one marked by tragedy. In a firework of colors, the film reveals how Frida Kahlo, with creativity and resilience, transformed her life into art, celebrating her desire for life, men, women, politics and her cultural heritage.
Through the use of modern recording techniques and decoding the symbols in Kahlo’s paintings, the film provides accurate and intimate insights into the work of a great artist.
