It all began with The Well of Loneliness by British author Radclyffe Hall. From there, more and more female writers emerged, publishing increasingly diverse stories (some of which even had happy endings). With evocative archival material and numerous interviews, the documentary tells the history of lesbian fiction from the 1920s to the 1990s, highlighting societal events that shaped female writers‘ works, as well as the influence these authors and their writings had on the genre and society as a whole. What unfolds is a captivating journey through the history of the feminist movement that makes you want to (re)read these stories.
