Portrait of my Mother

In “Portrait of my Mother”, Mexican director Tavo Ruiz recounts the moment that was to have a lasting effect on his mother’s life. Ruiz chose the essay film form in order to express his mother’s painful memories of her abuse. The film takes a cautious look at the deep scars of child abuse, encouraging abuse survivors to talk about their experiences and thus break the cycle of violence.
